Looking back on the beginning of this class, I didn't really know much about taking pictures. I learned more about it throughout the tri, I learned how to use the camera in manual mode. I learned about shutter speed, aperture and the ISO, which are three things in a camera to make a picture look perfect. The first couple times taking pictures in this class I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't understand the manual mode. After a few weeks I was able to control my manual settings and I knew how to use it in different situations like in lighting and where I was located. I love working with photoshop, I've used it since I was about eleven. I learned a bit more in it this tri, I learned how to add color to a black and white photo and I learned how to use the stamp tool. I also learned how to combine many photos together to create a panorama. The open tutorial was a lot of fun since I was able to control what I wanted to do in photoshop. Looking up many tutorials and testing them out, that helped me learn more about photoshop and see tools inside that I didn't know existed. This class has taught me a lot more about photography, and hopefully one day I use it out in the world.

Today I learned how to pan in a photo and how to create a motion blur that blurs out the background. It was hard since the sun was bright so the ISO had to be all the way down at 100 and the shutter speed was low but not too low and then the aperture was all the way up on the point and shoot camera at f/8. This could be fun to do in a city but when there isn't as much sun, panning is definitely a great strategy to blur the background.
In this photoshop assignment we were supposed to take multiple pictures of ourselves in a scene and then combine the photos to make one photo with us in it in different areas. I learned how to use layer mask and reveal and conceal different parts of a photo. This allowed me to combine the photos but not merge them. In photoshop I had to make sure the shadows were in their right spots and made sure no shadows were missing because then the photo would look weird.
For our last photo shooting week, I decided to do food and shot plenty of photos of different types of food. I experimented with lighting and angles, then I played around with the photos in photoshop. I was able to spend lots of time trying to get the photos perfect while taking them. The turn out turned out great, I was able to use different foods from my house so that gave me an advantage and I was able to place them wherever. My best photo shows two kinder chocolate eggs with two sugar sticks. I played with the lighting at home and positioned the foods where I wanted them. Then in photoshop I changed some contrast and made the photo black, then I used the History brush to color in "Kinder" and "Surprise" and also color the sugar sticks to give it some effect. In this tutorial, I learned how to make a stencil type banner on photoshop. I used all sorts of different tools in photoshop and the process did take a long time. I would have to say that this turned out pretty good. I had to make stencils first and then create shadows for them while changing the color the stencils. I then had to create lines (a path) that went from the holes of the stencils. I changed up the colors and added shadows and such. In the end I used some Iris blur to add effect.
Tutorial: https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-stencil-banner-text-effect-in-adobe-photoshop--cms-23353 This week I decided to do Light Painting and test some things out. I waited till it was dark out then set up a camera with a tripod and brought a flash light and my iPhone flashlight out. I also brought some gatorade out, koolaid and water, then i put the light up against the bottle and did different patterns in front of the camera as it counted up seconds. It was definitely a lot of fun to test different light patterns, I am going to try new things out in my free time and see what I can come up with. In this image I turned down the Shadows way down so that nothing was visible in the background. I also brightened the light up so that you could see its color and whiteness. In this assignment we were supposed to change up the look of the school. We took a picture and had to add some kind of scene into that picture through photoshop. It was fun since I was able to play around with different characters and place them where I wanted. I also had no limit of what I wanted in the picture so I decided to do Looney Tunes and add some characters from that show and it turned pretty good I would say. This took a little bit of time but in the end it was worth it. This helped me learn that I could change any photo and add or delete whatever I wanted, definitely going to work with this in the future and play around.
In this assignment we were supposed to take more than 3 pictures of a scene where the photos overlapped about 1/3 of the way, we also had to have 5 different panoramas at the end. I learned that photoshop really is incredible of how it can combine many pictures together and create a panoramic effect or an overlapped image. It takes the pixels and combines them to what it thinks is best, in the end you get a picture where it looks like you used a certain type of camera to take a panoramic photo but really you took many pictures and combined them in photoshop to create one good picture.
This week I decided to do the subject Animals and I took pictures of my dogs. My dogs cooperated for only a little bit because all they wanted to do was sleep. I had to throw some toys around and get them in certain areas and see what I could take. They ran around and then later became bored and didn't move at all. In this assignment I learned how to use lighting in two different techniques such as Window lighting or Studio lighting. On the left photo I used Window lighting and had some help with a classmate where she held a piece of paper which reflected the window light onto Autumn. The photo on the right was Studio lighting where I had three different lights setup, one on the right, one on the left and the third was behind Dylan. This assignment will help me with future pictures I'm going to take where I know how to use lighting and what kind to use. |
